This is me just making a point. Feel free to add any input or feedback. It is always welcome.
This blog is in no way a tool for you to cop out of your exercise routines. So don't even try it. My point here tonight is just to say that Overtraining is very common and so many people don't know when to say when. People think that beating yourself up and driving yourself into the ground is the only way to see a difference in your bodies. Guys are particularly bad about this. Your body is the most intricate machine ever made. What happens to your car if you're not putting the right fuel in it and you're driving it day and night and you never take the time to maintain it? If you never let your car rest and cool down?
It will stop running on you! You have to care for it and let the engine rest and then you can use it again the next day. Otherwise it is just going to breakdown and end up in the shop (metaphorically speaking- your body will shut down and in end up in bed all day or
worse--the hospital!)
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is the most important thing you CAN do. Take me for instance (only example I have right now) today I slept for HOURS! No matter what I did...I couldn't get out of bed! My "Gym Time" alarm went off (YES, I an alarm for the gym) and I don't even remember hitting the dismiss button. I actually started dreaming about the gym because I am very regimented about Gym Time. I woke up briefly and so badly wanted to change and run to make it to the gym. That is when the battle begins. I am not feeling, I have a cough and a headache from hell! I know I need to sleep it off if I want to hit legs tomorrow. I have been hitting the gym 5 days a week for about a month or so...rarely do I EVER miss a day but today was different. I had to
FIGHT myself to stay home and do the one thing my body REALLY needed. You know what though? I feel almost 100% better than I did this morning. I may avoid coming down with something because I allowed my body time to rest.
Now, again! This is not a permission slip to make excuses to miss the gym...because that would be
LAME! but my point is overtraining is common and rest is JUST as much a part of the fitness puzzle as eating and supplementing. REST is when your body heals and grows...that is when changes occur. So take a look at your fitness routine and your lifestyle and make sure that your get plenty of rest. If you are sick....REALLY sick...do everyone including yourself a favor and STAY HOME that day! Drink water and get some sleep. You'll be so pumped to get back in the gym and you'll be a lot stronger and have more endurance. There are times when you will have to go to the gym regardless of how you feel....like during contest prep and dieting but my athletes in here know what that's all about. Well....I am glad I got that off my chest. I hope you guys understand that this is NOT me giving you permission to Whimp Out of the gym because you're a lazy bum... ok?
